Honu Kai Surf's founder is a life-long ocean environmentalist and a long time surfer. All of Honu Kai Surf's employees are totally devoted to enjoying the ocean, having fun, surfing and protecting the seas. In addition to its educational programs and active participation in coastal clean-up, Honu Kai Surf donates a significant portion of its profits to several environmental organizations including the Surfrider Foundation, Ocean Conservancy, Oceana, The Pew Charitable Trusts and the National Environmental Trust.
Some totally awesome people have also lent a hand in the development of the live Aquatic project. The surfing and ocean photography for the web site was provided by world-renowned photographer Erik Aeder. Based in Hawaii, Erik is the senior photographer for Surfer, Windsurfing and Kiteboarding magazines. He has worked with some of the best athletes in the surfing industry and was the first surf photographer to document the exotic island of Nias, Indonesia, Easter Island and the famous big wave tow-in surfing spot "Jaws", Peahi, Maui. His body of work is simply amazing and continues to grow, so check out his photographs at www.erikaeder.com.
The 2010 Oberholtzer t-shirt is based on a painting of the live Aquatic logo created by Ken Oberholtzer. Ken is an eclectic folk artist currently living on the coast of Maine. Thousands of his paintings of sea creatures, animals, flowers and nature are in collections throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. Ken's fantastic collection of paintings, which always continues to change and expand, can be seen at www.coastwalkerart.com.
So while we at Honu Kai Surf recognize that surfing, for the most part, is an individual sport, the protection of our oceans requires a team effort. We're proud and thrilled to be a part of that team.
Live to surf. Save the seas. live Aquatic.
